Use the board-reported percentage for each year. Applied candidates are listed for context; the published rate concerns the appeared examination population, not everyone who applied.

What changed from 2025 to 2026?
The reported rate moved from 49.37% in 2025 to 46.51% in 2026, a decrease of 2.86 percentage points. The number who appeared also fell from 271,463 to 249,352, while the reported number who passed fell from 134,034 to 115,966.
The table shows examination outcomes. The figures alone do not explain changes in exam difficulty, marking or preparation, and they do not measure an individual student's ability.
Why compare the same measures?
Applied, appeared, and passed are different counts. A pass rate should be understood using the board’s stated rate and the appeared population; substituting applications or a count of searchable Gazette entries changes the denominator and can mislead.
The Gazette summary lists 257,318 applicants, while its searchable pages contain 257,474 entries. These are different counts; the entry count is not used as the 2026 pass-rate denominator.
